Wahtawah, the daughter of the Delawarean chief, is promised to
Chingachgook, the last Mohawk, who has been accepted into the tribe.
However, before the nuptials could take place, the Huronese raided the
Delawarean camp and ran off with Wahtawah. Together with his friend
Poacher, Chingachgook sets out to free Wahtawah, but only after the
English have attacked and subsequently destroyed the Huronese camp the
wounded Huronese chief is ready to declare peace with all Indian tribes.
